Weather Forecast App: The Ministry of Earth Sciences today launched a ‘Mausam’ mobile application for India Meteorological Department (IMD) to allow users to track weather updates among other features, to enhance government forecasting as well as warning services.
Starting the app today at IMD ‘s Foundation Day Celebrations, the ministry also mentioned that the app is now available for download from both the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
“This Mobile App is dedicated to the general public and designed to communicate the weather information and forecasts in a lucid manner without technical jargons,” an official release said.
In addition to weather forecasts, users can view radar images and receive early alerts about upcoming weather events.
Weather Forecast App – Here’s a quick rundown of all features on the ‘Mausam’ app
Current Weather:
Air temperature, humidity, wind speed, and direction data revised 8 times daily for 200 cities. Data is also given on Sunrise and, Sunset and Moonrise and Moonset.
Nowcast:
This feature shows three-hour warnings of localized weather phenomena and their severity provided by IMD State Meteorological Centers for around 800 stations and districts of India. The warning also includes its impact in case of extreme weather.
City Forecast: Weather Forecast App
Data is added to the app about the past 24 hours and a 7-day forecast of weather conditions across 450 cities in India.
Warnings:
Warnings issued twice a day for all districts in color code (Red, Orange, and Yellow) for the next five days to warn people of approaching dangerous weather. The Red color code is the most extreme category in which authorities are advised to take action, Orange code alerts authorities and the public to be alert, and Yellow code alerts authorities and the public to remain updated.

Latest wise radar products from Station are updated every 10 minutes
“The Mausam mobile app will be an important tool for dissemination of weather information and warnings in an attractive and user-friendly manner which will meet the requirements of the public,” the statement added.
The mobile app was designed and developed jointly by the Digital Agriculture & Youth (DAY) team of ICRISAT, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, and the Meteorological Department of India.
